Sacramento authorities are probing a shooting incident that broke out late Saturday at Howe Park just as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were clearing an unauthorized event of hundreds of attendees.
Before the Gunfire
Officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office initially responded to Howe Community Park shortly before 6:30 in the evening after receiving reports of subjects reportedly carrying hidden weapons. Soon after, another report was received about a potential altercation occurring within the park grounds.
An overhead unit searched from above but found nothing to substantiate the fight report. Regardless, authorities discovered that an enormous crowd had congregated at Howe Park without permission.
When the Shots Rang Out
Law enforcement personnel began the process of clearing the park by encircling the gathering and making announcements commanding attendees to leave immediately. About 15 minutes were allotted for the gathering to break up.
As the crowd was being cleared that an estimated 20 to 25 shots were fired. The shots sent the crowd running in all directions. Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies wasted no time in locating gunshot victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
By the time the scene was secured, four shooting victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. All four — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their mid to late twenties — were taken to local Sacramento hospitals. Emergency physicians reported that two of the four had injuries classified as immediate, one Arden Arcade Sacramento crime 2026 person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. According to authorities, all four were expected to survive.
Metro Fire Sacramento also responded and aided in treating those with gunshot wounds at the scene.
Crime Scene Evidence
The main crime scene appears to have occurred near the Cottage Way side of the park close to the Home Depot store situated at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel identified additional shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Bullet damage were noted in the iron perimeter fence surrounding the Home Depot store. These discoveries showed that a second shooter had been firing southward from along Cottage Way toward the Home Depot building and parking lot. The nearby Home Depot was placed on lockdown while the scene was active. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives kept processing evidence throughout the night.
Detainees in Solano County
Information obtained via scanner audio established that a Kia connected to the shooting was pulled over in Solano County California. Four individuals were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were sent to retrieve the detainees to transport the detainees for investigation. Footage analyzed by investigators made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
